Crystal is up in the bakery, baking up amazing creations. The whole stores smells of sweet, sweet chocolate, its making me nuts!!!! By the way, nuts go great with chocolate, pecan, almonds, cashews, peanuts… etc ME!. We have a fresh pot of coffee on, some store specials, light jazz and loads of smiles….. must be the chocolate…… Come over for a visit say hi….

Crystal has taken the reigns and is now running the show! She is bringing in new stock, taking custom orders and seeing to all your cakes questions, needs and specialty orders.

He’s done it again! Remco has utilized one of his many talents to build you all something wonderful! Allow me to elaborate.
Those who know us at NeatFreakz/For Cake’s Sake, know we teach wonderful baking classes, cooking classes and decorating classes. We have done it for years and although you may have heard otherwise, we are not ending the classes. Quite the opposite actually. We are improving them! Yes our stock in the cake store will be changing but we are not closing! And at this point we still have a store full of wonderful cake, cookie and cupcake decorating supplies.
Now back to the man of the hour…Remco has kindly taken it upon himself to vastly improve our teaching kitchen. He is building, probably as we speak, work stations for all of our students! This means we will be able to feature far more hands-on classes! You will now have your own area to chop, cut, slice and stir. Now not all of our classes will be changing to hands on, we will still be offering some demo classes and we will be sure to advertise what “type” of class it is once posted. We know some of you would prefer to enjoy a nice glass of wine and watch the chef do all the work. But for those of you who want to get in there and get creating, we now cater to you as well!
So let’s all give Remco a round of applause or a big pat on the back if you’re lucky enough to visit the store. The reno looks awesome.

We love Satin Ice fondant. And we love carrying it in every color imaginable! We have black, white, red, orange, blue, baby blue, green, pastel green, pink, baby pink, purple, yellow, and brown. If you need a colour not listed, we can help with that. We have food dyes in an even broader spectrum than that! Maybe you need Rose, Aquamarine, Leaf Green, Electric Purple or Christmas Red??? We have it all.

This is an adorable cake created by a little girl at our shop. She completed it with the help of one of our instructors. This is a great example of how creativity and imagination are brought about at our store.
Our sweet little student was asked what theme of cake she would like to create for her 12th Birthday party. She mentioned she would like butterflies. So our instructor took it took the next level and pushed her creative limits. He suggested they create a Fairy Cake with butterflies and flowers, amongst their “natural” setting. They chose to make a log cake as tho the Fairies were hanging around.
Here is the process of making the cake and the final product! The pictures hardly do it justice. It turned out beautiful! I think we have a decorator in the making!

I have been hearing a lot about Smash Cakes and I found some beautiful pictures of them in action!
Here is a definition I found for Smash Cake:
“Smash Cake is the precious tradition of baking your one-year-old birthday child his/her very own cake that she can do whatever she likes with…mainly it makes for a great photo that will be treasured for years to come. Often people make two cakes on the first birthday occasion…one to share with friends and family that looks beautiful and may match the party theme and a second one with the birthday child’s name on it that is meant to be destroyed by her.”

Today is a sad day. Adam Yauch aka MCA, passed away due to a long battle with cancer. I owe Adam a debt.
You see in high school, I was a goofy kid, a little awkward, and just coming out of my ugly duckling yrs. I was not sure of much, I was your typical teenager, although I was sure of two things:
a) I liked camping, hiking and outdoors stuff, sports
and
b) GIRLS.
Unlike being in the great outdoors, Girls were, hmmmmm lets see, ” hard to get into” ( no pun intended ). How did a kid, who can’t figure himself out, even begin to understand GIRLS or talk to them? I was in grade 11 at the time and enjoying or pretending to enjoy, a school dance. I was as a cool, single, unattached guy, ( looser ). I was open to anything wild and crazy. Well that’s how I played it. Now, I was portrayed by others as, “who is that kid’?
I sat in the bleachers with a few other single, crazy, unattached, cool, happen guys ( more losers ). We observed the much desired, and never spoken too girls, from a far. Speaking lies to each other like, ” I’m far too good for Susan Black, I wouldn’t even give her the time of day”, ( outrageous lie’s. We all did things to ourselves, in the name of Susan Black. Things I need not mention here, if you know what I mean).
The night wore on. I grew tired of my own lie’s and everyone else . I was reaching the end of my patience, and then, Adam Yauch and the Beastie Boys came on the sound system.
For reasons I can’t explain, I walked straight out into the middle of the dance floor and there, in front of all my peers, I began gyrating, convulsing, contorting, or as my peeps would say, I busted a move. Every closet dance move, every secret practiced spin, in front of private bed room mirrors, I danced. I moon walked, body wormed and back spun. You name it and I blended it into a dance montage from hell! I didn’t care who saw me. In my mind it was only Me, The Beastie Boys and the song, “Girls” well that and a roar of laughter resonating from across the gym floor.
Halfway thru the song and I heard girls voices, yes that’s right, GIRLS. They chanted go Remco, go Remco and I went. The song of courage, as I now dubbed it, came to a close and I wound things down. People began to give me smiles. Smiles I never thought were possible, it was a coming of ages you could say. I busted into the lime light and thru my explosion of goofy, awkward, dance moves, I somehow branched out into a more secure, self esteemed person.

As the rain has started to drizzle down and the sun is slipping behind the gray clouds, I wish and long for the strong warm amber sun we will feel in late August. It brings a sense of ease and tranquility. Especially while lounging in a park, on a deck with a cold drink, in a boat with a fishing rod or where ever you most enjoy your sunshine.
The warmth is such a comfort and easily explains why so many couples choose to Wed in the rays of the sun. With the sun calling year round in many parts of the world, destination weddings are always on the fore front. Which brings me to my next theme…beach themed cakes. I don’t mean a cartoon crab on a cake, or the Little Mermaid. I’m talking about elegantly put together tiered cakes with the beauty of a beach as the focal point…
